Trainer and Behavior Consultant
Robin Pool began her dog handling and training experience through her work with assistance
dogs personally and professionally over 13 years ago, and it is her experience living with
quadriplegia that fueled her commitment to empowering people with disabilities as the founder
and Executive Director of Paws-Up, Inc.
She is now a leader in the assistance and therapy dog
community and has been honored as a semi-finalist
Volvo for Life Hero. Robin readily provides support
to handlers and professional dog trainers through her
participation presenting at seminars, assisting other
organizations with the development of Read to Rover
and Pet Visitation Programs, and participating as a
member of the Division on Human-Animal Mutualism
for the IAABC which focuses on working animals..
Additionally, Robin has experience in various aspects
of pet dog training and has worked with (rescued,
trained and re-homed) numerous dogs both pure and
mix breeds. She herself has owned several breeds
throughout her life (Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Aussie, Border Collie, Boxer,
Poodles). Robin has helped a number of pet owners modify their dog's behavior issues such as
destructiveness, separation anxiety, resource guarding and fearful behaviors. She has also
experience preparing and testing owners and their pet dogs for AKC's Canine Good Citizen and
Delta Society Pet Partners program.
Robin has trained some of her personal dogs to pass the AKC CGC test, Delta Society Pet
Partners and several have been trained complex assistance dog skills. Her current assistance
dog is a wonderful male Boxer named Keefer, and is currently training an outgoing and free
spirited standard poodle named Ryker as Keefer's successor. For enjoyment and to enrich the
lives of her animals, Robin participates in various activities with her dogs including rally, agility
and pet therapy.
