As Paws-Up, Inc.'s Educational Program
Coordinator, Veronica Sanchez, M.Ed.CABC
has produced various educational materials for
Paws-Up, Inc. including the newsletter, "A
Pawsitive Canine Experience". Veronica also has
a leadership role in the International Association
of Animal Behavior Consultants, as the chair of
the Service Animal Consulting Division. She is
endorsed by the National Association of Dog
Obedience Instructors (member #1044E), a
registered AKC CGC evaluator, and a member
of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
Veronica's background includes a Masters
degree in Education, a Bachelors degree in
Psychology from George Mason University and
a Certificate in Brain Research in Education from a University of Washington NIH funded program
on the physiological aspects of learning and behavior. Veronica has hands-on experience training
assistance dogs for herself and others as well as expertise in other areas of dog training. Her
assistance dog, a rough collie,  titled in AKC competition obedience in three trials (placing each
time), titled in frisbee, has worked as a therapy dog, and was recognized in Collie Expressions for
his achievements.

Training and Behavior Consulting in northern Virginia. She also has worked with diverse
Training and Behavior Consultingpopulations of humans, including as a public school teacher  
in northern Virginia. She also has worked with diverse Spanish/English.populations of humans,
including as a public school teacher and dual language specialist in Spanish/English.

After four years as a volunteer
EMT/Firefighter, our
"A Pawsitive
Canine Experience" Associate Editor,
Irene Lea, decided to once again volunteer
as a newsletter editor - this time
combining her love of dogs with a great
cause!  Irene is currently a Senior
Technical Writer at webMethods and a
Senior Member of the Society for
Technical Communication (STC), a
professional organization that she has
been an active member of since 1992.
Irene has been a professional technical
writer for over 15 years after graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
and attending graduate school at the College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College
Park. Her past volunteer writing experiences include successive stints as: Editor and then
Managing Editor for the newsletter of the STC DC chapter newsletter, Capital Letter; Judge for
several of the annual International STC Newsletter Competitions; and then as Copy
Editor/Editor/Co-Editor of the STC International Technical Communication Professional Interest
Committee newsletter, Global Talk.  In her work with the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad,
Irene earned certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B), Firefighter II, in
Hi/Low Angle Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, and in Confined Space Rescue.

Irene is the proud co-owner and clicker trainer of Kojack, a 26-month old rescued bi-color
German Shepherd with the biggest ears (for tracking subs and satellites!).  Kojack has participated
in various Obedience classes, passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, and is most
recently an avid fan of novice Agility.
